While I really appreciate the fact that so many celebs get involved with issues like education, cancer research, world hunger, and poverty (all major issues), I sometimes have to wonder how much they actually care, and how much is a publicity stunt?
ReplyDeleteIt is undeniable that celebs attract attention when they discuss serious world issues; however, when young audiences see celebrities endorsing a noble cause one week, and then see them being arrested for drunk driving the next week, what kind of messages are they really getting?
I'm not saying that there aren't celebs who generally care about the world and improving the quality of people's lives, but I think we as citizens and media consumers must take any celebrity ad campaign with a grain of salt. I love seeing my favorite singer on TV championing cancer research (my father recently had prostate cancer, so I am very concerned with the advancement of that research), but I can't help but wonder: Is it all just an act?
I in no way intend to discredit or criticize any celebs that support these issues, I just think it is something to ponder when celebrity ad campaigns are launched...
