Mist and Mast - X-Ray
"Former metal band leader, Jason Lakis has taken his solo project's new album to the streets in what he describes as the first time he could hear all the parts as he was writing it. Upon listening, you will hear a full band on about half the tracks, as he enlisted the help of a few buddies as his live backing band who ended up sticking around filling out the sound. Free MP3 Download: Snow Patrol "New Sensation"
Pop quiz. What do Arthur Russell, TV on the Radio and Tribe Called Quest have in common? Stumped yet? If you guessed something along the lines of, they’re each one of the incredibly surprising picks on Snow Patrol’s Late Night Tales DJ mix, the 22nd edition of the Uncut Mag jock disc, we think you’re probably cheating. But seriously, the boys who’ve built a reputation for soaring balladry and immaculately written rock dramas (we still sing the chorus to “Chasing Cars” in the shower), apparently have a madcap DJ side. Who’d a thunk it? And considering the amount of turntable theatrics we’re subjected to here at the MuseBox, the fact that we’re really, really excited about this release should say something. Careening from Beefheart to Bobby Gentry, from Miracle Fortress to Field Music, the 19-tracker is a crash course not in dancefloor glitziness, but rather a startlingly comprehensive record collection, one that can flex its obscurest muscle right along with its INXS covers. The latter is the comp’s treat: a freshly recorded rendition of the rollicking “New Sensation.” Release stateside on November 3rd, the laboriously compiled mix bears the fingerprints of Patrolers Gary Lightbody and Tom Simpson, and should please Snow fans and newbies alike. Get converted or reaffirm your love when you check out the below video, a clip shot in the BBC Radio 1 studios of Snow Patrol plowing through the cover in question with unmistakable style and panache.
