The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum and Case Western Reserve University will celebrate Janis Joplin, one of rock and roll’s most passionate and influential artists during the 14th annual American Music Masters® series. Tickets for the November 14 tribute concert are on-sale now.
Lucinda Williams, country troubadour Guy Clark, and R&B vocalist Nona Hendryx are among the artists lined up for a Janis Joplin tribute concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at PlayhouseSquare's State Theatre in Cleveland, OH.
The concert will serve as the grand finale of "Kozmic Blues: The Life and Music of Janis Joplin," a weeklong American Music Masters salute to Joplin presented by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum and Case Western Reserve University. Tickets are $30, $40 or $50 at the Playhouse Square box office, or charge by phone, 216-241-6000.
Joplin, the bluesy vocal powerhouse from Texas who first made a name for herself in the late 1960s with Big Brother and the Holding Company, is best remembered for such hits as "Piece of My Heart" and "Me and Bobby McGee." She died of a heroin overdose in 1970, at the age of 27. Joplin was inducted into the Rock Hall in 1995.
